What is Osteopathy?
Manual Osteopathy is a form of “hands on” therapy that focuses primarily on overall body health and well-being by detecting and treating imbalances and weaknesses of the body. Osteopathic treatment is focused on how the muscles, bones, nerves and internal organs function as a whole unit. Your First Consultation
Your manual osteopath will ask questions about your presenting complaint and symptoms. They may also ask questions regarding your medical history, including any injuries or traumas, any medications that you take, or other questions that may not seem directly related to your problem. This is because osteopaths view the body as an integrated system and are skilled at problem-solving the underlying cause(s) of your symptoms.
Your osteopath will then conduct an examination that may involve diagnostic, orthopedic or neurological tests, postural assessments and activities or exercises, which will help determine how best to manage your condition.
As osteopathy takes a holistic approach to treatment. Your manual osteopath may look at other areas of your body, including the one(s) that is troubling you. For example, if you have a sore knee, they may also look at your ankle, pelvis and back.
